Chengdu Metro ()

The Chengdu Metro is a rapid transit system in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, China. With the opening of Line 1 on September 27, 2010, the system consists of 13 subway lines and 1 light rail line. Since the opening of Lines 6, 8, 9 and 17 on 18 December 2020, the Chengdu Metro is the fourth longest metro system in the world. There are currently 13 subway lines operating, covering 518.5 km (322.2 mi) with 337 stations and one light rail line operating with 36 stops (Line T2), covering 39.3 km.

  • The Chengdu Metro, or Bus Metro as the locals call it, is a mass rapid transit system in Chengdu, the capital of China's Sichuan province.
  • Chengdu Metro service consists of three parts: city railway, metro and light rail trains. It was the first joint venture in the country between a national rail operator and a local provincial government.
  • The 88.2 km long metro network began operations on 27 September 2010. Currently, the network has only 3 running lines, serving 70 stations.
  • Being the first heavy metro rail line in South and West China, expansion plans are already underway and 7 more lines are expected to be completed in the next 30 years.
  • The Chengdu Metro had a daily ridership of 1.176 million and an annual ridership of 103 million in 2014. In 2012, its popularity became a well-kept secret.
  • Chengdu Metro service starts operating at around 6:00 in the morning and runs until around 00:00 at midnight.
  • The price of tickets varies according to the number of journey stops. A ticket costs 2 Chinese Yuan for 6 stops, 3 Chinese Yuan for 12 stops, 4 Chinese Yuan for 18 stops, 6 Chinese Yuan for 32 stops and 7 Chinese Yuan for 40 stops.
  • Based on these prices, the full price for Metro Line 1 is 5 Chinese Yuan, for Metro Line 2 it is 6 Chinese Yuan and for Metro Line 4 it is 4 Chinese Yuan.
