Metropolitan line Overview
The first section of the Metropolitan line was opened in 1863 between Paddington and Farringdon. Over the following decades, the line expanded well beyond central London, extending into Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Following the extension towards Aylesbury in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the Amersham branch became part of the route. Metropolitan line services run from Amersham to Finchley Road, through northwest London. This route connects important stations such as Harrow-on-the-Hill and Baker Street and also provides interchange with several London Underground and National Rail services.
