Kyoto Subway (京都市営地下鉄)
The Kyoto Municipal Subway, also known as the Kyoto City Subway, is a rapid transit network in the city of Kyoto, Japan. An important component of Kyoto's extensive public transportation network, the Kyoto Municipal Subway began operation on October 1, 1981, marking a significant advance in the city's urban development. Comprising two primary lines, the green-adorned Karasuma Line and the Tozai Line, recognizable by its red color, the subway system strategically connects different corners of Kyoto. The Karasuma Line, spanning approximately 13.7 kilometers, passes through the northern and southern areas of the city, stopping at major stations such as Kitaoji, Karasuma Oike, and Shijo. In parallel, the Tozai Line covers a distance of approximately 16.6 kilometers, crossing the east-west axis of the city and connecting important places including Rokujijo, Nijō and Uzumasa-Tenjingawa. With important interchange points such as Kyoto Station, the subway integrates seamlessly into Kyoto's broader transportation infrastructure, facilitating easy transfers and increasing connectivity with other modes of transit.
