Amsterdam Metro (Amsterdamse metro)

The Amsterdam Metro is a rapid transit system serving Amsterdam, Netherlands, and extending to the surrounding municipalities of Diemen and Oder-Amstel. Since beginning operations on October 16, 1977, the metro system has expanded to include four lines, each serving different routes within the city. The metro system consists of five routes and serves 39 stations, with a total length of 42.7 kilometers (26.5 mi). Three routes start from Amsterdam Centraal: route 53 and route 54 connect the city center with the suburban residential towns of Diemen, Duivendrecht and Amsterdam-Juidost (the city's southeastern borough), while route 51 runs first to the south and then Connects with a circular route.
