The Mecca Metro or Mecca Metro is a metro system consisting of four planned lines in the city of Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Inaugurated on November 13, 2010, this metro system holds immense importance, especially during the annual Hajj pilgrimage, as it efficiently transports millions of pilgrims between holy sites. The metro was built by China Railway Construction Corporation and operated by Mecca Mass Rail Transit Company (MMRTC). The metro is part of the 62 billion riyal Mecca Public Transport Program (MPTP), which will include integrated bus services. In particular, the Metro plays an important role in increasing access to holy sites, including the Masjid al-Haram, and contributes to the overall efficiency and safety of the pilgrimage experience.
